Our Story
To imagine a better world by creating a happier home through enabling moms. Our job is to help moms build stable homes to raise stronger and happier people, making for a better world.
The JOYJOY foundation is in memory of our late Joy Chang, a single mom of three sons whose life was dedicated to making sure they were always happy and healthy.
Joy Chang was born in 1956 in Kunming, China. She was the third of four children, and led a modest life in China working as an elementary school teacher.
Joy wanted to see the world and expand her perspectives in life. She made her first adventure to Argentina where she had her first son. However, Joy felt she wanted a better place to raise a family, and decided that Canada would be the best for her and her son. Shortly thereafter, Joy was blessed with two more sons.
At that time, she was very happy, her sons were thriving, healthy, and living life to its fullest, when suddenly life took a fateful twist and her heart was left broken. Her husband had picked up and left the family. Her world turned to black and white. Emotionally, she spiralled downward, she ended up on welfare, had no one to lean on, no help at all, with the weight of the world, and 3 young boys to take care of.
She felt so helpless, as the financial burdens weighed heavily on the day to day necessities of life.
Joy struggled to make ends meet, and to ensure her sons didn’t have to be without their basic needs.
Joy was dedicated, persevered, and never gave up. While she kept a strong outside demeanor, inside and in private she would break down with late nights of crying and utter fright of what would come next.
Her three boys grew up strong and helped their mother where they could.
Ultimately, with all the stress throughout her life, Joy was diagnosed with cancer, where she eventually lost her battle.
The JOYJOY foundation is where Joy Chang’s legacy lives on. She is here in spirit to help single moms with all her heart, to ease the burdens of being a single mom, and to make life better for everyone.
